Teaching Diary: Genocide

I couldn't sleep last night, so my thoughts turned to genocide. As you do. Specifically, my thoughts turned to a few of my boys from my previous school. I taught them general lit/writing and American lit. They graduated last spring. I don't know if they went straight to uni. I hope they did. Because one is Israeli and one is Ukrainian.
If the Israeli boy went straight into his mandatory military service, he's very likely committing or actively helping commit genocide right now. If he went to uni, then when he does join the military, he will at best be complicit in genocide.
The Ukrainian boy was so angry that he wasn't able to defend his home when the war started in February 2022. His friends were fighting. Even a former classmate, who had gone home to Ukraine a few months prior, could possibly help, even though he was only fifteen. The Ukrainian boy wanted to graduate and go defend his friends, his family, and his home from genocide.
I don't know what to do with this information.
