Crafting with Deb

More quarantine crafting! It’s not unusual for me to make things. I generally have to be doing something with my hands, especially while watching tv or when I’m stressed and anxious. These are some projects I’ve finished recently.

I’m calling this my Lan Xichen scarf, as I’m still on my fandom crafting kick. It helps that the various clans in The Untamed have nice colors for each clan’s uniform. It makes it easy to make things that are subtle tributes. I’m sending this scarf to my work bestie, who used to come into my classroom each morning and fangirl with me. I meant to have it finished earlier (I just stitched the last bit up about an hour ago), but MWB lives in the wilds of Ontario, and it snowed there as recently as last week, so I’m sure she’ll use it. The pattern is a feather-and-fan lace, which doesn’t work very well with worsted yarn, but it gives the scarf a nice texture. I only had one skien of yarn, so it wasn’t long enough to wrap comfortably as a regular scarf, so I stitched the ends together to make a cowl. I think it will be very cozy without being super bulky.

Of course I had to make some masks. I made several pleated masks for family members. I found the pattern for the mask I’m wearing in a YouTube video. It’s much easier to put together and fits my face better than the pleated mask. It also has a pocket for a filter. Given that these masks are more to prevent droplets rather than really filter anything, I will probably make more without the pocket. I find I get very claustrophobic when I wear these and find it hard to breathe. I think a single thickness, as well as just staying away from people, will be fine. I bought fabric from Spoonflower to make masks and a little quilt, but it took so long to get to me that I lost interest. However, I have a few projects lined up to tackle once school is over.

For my birthday, my friend Sara sent me a box of puffy paints. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with them for awhile, but then I remembered I have a nice pin collection. I ordered these canvas pennants and decorated them. I’ll hang them up when I get home.

I also used the paint to decorate a pencil bag since I have acquired a lot of pens and pencils recently.

Finally, I dipped into my embroidery floss collection. I haven’t felt like stitching anything, so I decided to make some friendship bracelets. I never mastered how to make them as a kid, but thanks to YouTube, I figured it out. The best thing is that I can make these while watching subtitled TV shows. I’m watching Medical Examiner Dr. Qin season three, because I like procedural and I really like Liu Haikuan. ;) I can make about one bracelet per episode. Some of these are for friends with upcoming birthdays. Some are for me. The loopy bracelet on the bottom isn’t great. I think it will work better with thicker cord, not embroidery floss.

Anyway, I hope you like these. I think they’re neat.

Liu Haikuan is the best (although I find the show *really* slow-going).

And I love that scarf ♥

That's the coolest-looking mask I've seen so far! I love the fabric.

What nice things! I especially like the badge pennants, that's a great idea :)
