GYWO: March Update
Apr. 2nd, 2020 04:34 pmNot to brag, but I’m totally going to brag. I have kept up a daily writing streak since February 14!! Sure, some days I only managed to type out a few sentences, in the notes app as it inched closer to midnight, but I did it! I am so glad I decided to sign up for the writing habit challenge instead of the word count. Working from home has been harder than I ever thought it would be, both emotionally and in terms of getting the things I need to just keep my class moving forward. I have made more quizzes in MS Forms than I ever thought possible, and I’ve got 11 weeks to go. Forms forms forms! They take the spark out of a girl. If I had to also try to eke out a few hundred words of some sort of creative endeavor on top of that? No dice.
I’ve been writing fan fiction exclusively, but I did go through my original WIP file this month, and there are some rough gems in there. And I wrote some fics that I’m really proud of, particularly in terms of evoking a mood in a few sentences or paragraphs.
I’m loathe to set any new goals right now, given how precarious my mood is in the midst of *waves hands* you know. Life. But I would, at some point this year, like to focus my energy on building longer plots. I see it as the equivalent of switching from back stroke to butterfly. I’m still swimming laps, but I want to work some different muscles. Eventually. Maybe this summer. Until then, I’m going to do my best to keep the streak going. I chose the Journeyman level goal, which is 270 days of creative writing for the year. That gives me about five days off per month, I think, and I lost a good chunk of time in January due to illness and travel. I’d like to not get complacent.
