Well.
Things have been happening a lot, all the time, all over, and I am feeling very old. I’m finally in Minsk, settling in at school. The first few days have been a whirlwind of signing a bunch of documents I can’t read, such as rental agreements and work contracts, because I don’t speak Russian, but I trust the school isn’t setting me up for something shady. Usually, there is new staff orientation where all this sort of stuff is taken care of, but the start of this year was bananas, like everything else in 2020, so it’s all happening in bits and pieces. I went to the grocery store and got some things I need, but I was so overwhelmed that I just got a few things. Luckily, staff put some food in the apartment for me before I arrived. It was actually good stuff, like chicken, potatoes, rice, pasta, tomatoes, carrots, bananas, yogurt, etc. I brought gochujang and Japanese curry with me, so I made curry chicken, potatoes, and carrots for dinner and made such a big pot that I’ve had it for dinner and lunch for a few days. I used the gochujang and some rice vinegar and soy sauce I bought in the “Asian” section of the grocery store (which was just, like 50 kinds of soy sauce, seaweed for sushi rolls, and a variety of sauces like Thai curries) for a cucumber salad. I wasn’t able to find sesame oil, but I need to find that ASAP. The cucumber salad isn’t the same without it.
