Sunday Snippet and Happy New Year!
Jan. 3rd, 2021 08:58 pmHappy New Year, friends! I hope the first few days have been treating you gently. I almost forgot today was Sunday since I haven’t left my apartment much in the last few days. New Year’s is a huge holiday here. Seriously, fireworks were set off around the city for hours, well past midnight on the first. One of my coworkers posted a video of fireworks exploding right outside their 12th floor apartment windows. I was not a fan.
But it is Sunday, and I’ve managed to write something every day. I don’t have any challenges I’m working on at the moment, so this is the first time since October that I haven’t written with daily prompt. I do have an old Guardian fic I should finish up in this last week of winter break, from Weilan Week way back in August. Maybe I’ll come up with a little challenge for myself. I had found a Facebook post that a guy made, 500 reasons he loves his girlfriend, and it seemed cute, but when I went through the list, well, some of the things were iffy (some were weirdly racist), so I scrapped that idea.
Without anything specific to guide me, I’ve been going back between a modern tattoo parlor AU and a modern cultivators AU, both with SangCheng as my focus. The cultivators series is a bit more lighthearted, so here is a snippet from the story I posted yesterday. I hope you all find joy and inspiration, in whatever area you need, in 2021!
“Do you ever wonder if we’re really just a projection? Or, like, a computer program?”
Jiang Cheng lowers the map to stare at Huaisang. “Are you high?”
Huaisang stretches out on the hood of their rented pickup truck and looks up at the stars. “Maybe we’re just characters in someone’s stories, and they can’t decide how they want our lives to play out, so they rewrite everything a million times — our first meeting, our first kiss, our adventures.” He shifts, and Jiang Cheng can make out his beloved, mischievous grin in the light of the full moon.
