Sixty-eight more days until I can go home! Probably! Assuming everything works!

Last year I had to rebook my flights five times due to cancellations. This time, I've rebooked only once, and it was kinda my fault. We have to work until June 18 (yes, we have a Saturday work day because my job is cruel). I have to pick up my new passport at the embassy in Vilnius, so I figured I would go up Sunday and stay in a hotel, pick up my passport in the afternoon (they have limited opening hours) and fly out that night. I found a great flight, business class, perfect-for-me layovers, and I would get home Tuesday around dinner time. Well, I'd get to Idaho. My home is still a two-hour drive from the airport. Yay, rural living!

Alas! As I went to put everything into my phone calendar, I noticed a dot on Monday, the 20th. It is Juneteenth, which is now a federal holiday. This is only the second year that it has been an official federal holiday, and I've forgotten most of America's federal holidays since we don't observe them even though we are an "American" school. What this means for me is that the embassy will be closed. I looked for some other options, but they either left too early to get to the embassy and get covid tested or they would get me home on a Thursday or Friday or get me in late at night. I could wait and fly out Wednesday with Business Class or look again. I decided I'd rather get home sooner on economy. Business Class is nice, but home is so much nicer!

Now I'm just crossing my fingers that things stay as calm as they are now (or preferably get calmer) for the next two months. My experiences over the last few years have taught me that calm can change so quickly.

Now to get through the next 7 weeks of teaching!
