Taiwan Diary: Losing Control of My Face
Oct. 5th, 2022 12:33 pmDid I mention that our head of school is A Lot?
Oh, friends, she is A Lot.
We had a staff meeting yesterday. Earlier in the week, she decided that she needed to run them and be in charge. She was half an hour late, unironically told a story about a student who missed an interview with Cornell because the student was late and that student deserved the rejection she got from Cornell due to her own carelessness, then berated staff presenters for not being ready. We had a fire drill today, and she screamed at the kids for not running out of the building fast enough, even though EVERY PIECE OF CURRENT WISDOM SAYS TO EXIT BUILDINGS CAREFULLY AND TO NOT RUN. But she's not satisfied, so she's going to ask the fire department to come to hold a more realistic drill. Does that mean she'll set something on fire? WHO KNOWS?
Anyway, I've been in online meetings and masked for too long because I have lost the ability to control my face, and I had my mask off yesterday, and woof. I got a lot of texts and comments about how no one can sit across from me anymore or we'll all get into trouble. One coworker said, "I have never seen someone knit with such fury before!" I was crocheting, but yeah. I brought it to the meeting so I could feel like my time was productive.
Anyway, the pluses still outweigh the minuses of life here in Zhubei/at my school, but I am either going to have to remember to control my face or bring a more complicated craft project so I have something else to focus on.
