GYWO: Halfway Point
Jul. 1st, 2020 09:27 pmAnd that’s six months of Get Your Words Out. My habit pledge for the year was to do some writing for 240 days of the year. My year-to-date total is 147 days with some sort of writing, which is ahead of pace. This is a lot better than I expected because June was a tough month for stories. I think I managed to publish a couple short fics at the beginning of the month, but most of the month was made up of drafting random scenes and outlining others, but nothing substantial or coherent.
I’m trying really hard not to feel bad about this. I’m ahead on my goal. I have six more months to try. So far, July isn’t starting with much of a bang. I don’t have anything I’m particularly eager to write. I had a hard time reading this month, too. Concentration was an issue. I ended up binge watching Unsolved Mysteries and Forensic Files and crocheting a lot. This is not a fun state of mind, but it’s one I’ve been through before and I know it will eventually lift. I dunno. Maybe tomorrow I’ll go through my original WIPs and see what’s around. There was a discussion on Twitter about a desire to read slice of life fantasy. This is something I’ve been thinking about for the last year or so. I called it Domestic Fantasy — stories of “every day” life but in a fantasy world. No epic quests. I wrote a few stories in this vein, and I really like it. We’ll see.
Here’s to a creative and productive July to you all, and good luck to my friends who are participating in Camp NaNo!
