Wow, so this is weirdly intimidating. Even though I am certifiably An Old, I was never in the LJ/online community stuff. I had a book blog back in the day, but that's about it. So I'm a little nervous, but I'm also a bit at loose ends in my life. I guess I'm hoping to make some fannish friends who will indulge and encourage my fangirling.
I'm a middle school English teacher currently working at an international school in Shenzhen, China. I'm in my second year abroad, and it's been...something. A lot of the time, I love it here. Well, I don't love the weather. South China is hot and humid and I'm a high desert gal. My body is crying out for cardigans and snuggly scarves right now, but it's 80+ degrees.
One of the best things about living in China, though, is coming across a little show called Guardian. I was channel surfing one day last spring, looking for something that might be good background noise. I don't speak Mandarin, and none of the shows are dubbed. I scrolled through the options and saw the icon for Guardian. I remembered seeing something about it on tumblr and thought I'd give it a chance.
Reader, I was hooked! I didn't know what anyone was saying, mind, but I know enough about story to figure things out. I watched subtitled episodes on YouTube when I could (when my VPN managed to stay connected for more than 10 minutes at a time). Imagine my glee when Amazon Prime put the show up. I'm working through the series again, and in the mean time, I'm filling the gaps with fics.
My other current fan interests are basically dramas, dramas, dramas. I'm working through Dark Blue Kiss, Love is More Than a Word, The Untamed, and a couple others. I'm also huge comics fan, reading Marvel (Hawkeye, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, The Unstoppable Wasp, Ms. Marvel, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, etc), Lumberjanes, Giant Days, Goldie Vance, basically all your queer girl comics.
So hi! Hello! I'm shy but I'm eager to chat.
