Weilan Week 2020, Days 1-4
Nov. 25th, 2020 09:33 amI don't have the energy to create anything new for Weilan Week, but I wanted to acknowledge Guardian and the enormously important place it has in my life -- it's the reason I have made wonderful new friends over the last year and a half (I posted my first fic in June 2019). I'm a few days behind, so here are my responses to the first four questions.
How did you discover Guardian?
I saw gif sets on Tumblr of someone bleeding very aesthetically, and normally that sort of thing would turn me off of a show. In fact, I did avoid it for awhile, but such is the power of Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu that when I moved to China and was surfing through the local TV options and saw those aesthetically pleasing actors I watched the whole series in Chinese (I do not speak Chinese). I watched them again on YouTube with some rough subtitles.
What is a favorite scene or moment?
That Scene in episode 23 (You’re worth it.) That scene prompted me to write my first Guardian fic.
Describe Guardian in three words.
Hot, Beautiful Mess
Rec a fanwork.
Oh, there are far too many good works, but naye’s story A Constellation of Two and clevermanka’s companion piece, Binary System are probably the first fanworks that really grabbed me. Also, manka’s current piece, The Deconstruction of Hei Pao Shi, is an astonishing meditation/allegory on trauma and chronic illness, as well as being hot as hell. And if I may rec my own slice of life, post canon fic, Find a Thousand Words. It is a sweet little story about the ways people show love.
