Teaching Diary 8
Mar. 15th, 2021 11:53 amI know I've been a bit of a Debbie Downer lately because Life, but today I was reminded of a positive (through a negative, but also, Life).
I have said that I miss my old school and friends, and I do. I miss them dearly. Today is my China Work Bestie's birthday, Friday was my other China Work Bestie's birthday, and my own b-day is coming up and I'll be celebrating alone.
BUT.
IWD treat mix-up aside, my admin here is Fan-Freaking-Tastic! They aren't perfect, but no one is. They are supportive. They follow through with policy. The follow policy. The old admin I had in Shenzhen was a flat-out grudge-holding bully, and his replacement, from what I gather from friends still in SZN, is one of the most unprofessional people I've ever heard of. I've had some terrible admin in my day, but this person makes me seriously reconsider applying to return to SZN, no matter how much I miss the people there.
I am extremely fortunate to have good leadership at my current job. Our DI* is transferring out of our school system next year, and I'm sad to see him go. I hope that the new admin will do a good job. They're coming from another of our Chinese schools, and our Director has worked with them before and is happy they're coming, so I'm hopeful next year will be good, too. I've been so lucky and I am so grateful that, at least on a career level, this year has been darn good.
*DI = Director of Instruction (basically the US school principal/vice principal equivalent) and Director = Director of the whole school (the US school equivalent of a school district superintendent) -- if there is more than one campus, they are in charge of all the campuses, while each campus would have its own DI.
