It was bound to happen, but I have hit a bit of a creative wall this week. I’m tired from coming back to work, tired because we’re on distance learning next week due to a couple positive COVID cases in the school community, and tired because it is FRICKING FREEZING! We hit a cold snap this week, and the temps have dipped down to -20F (feeling like -30C at some points, and I’m switching back and forth between whatever seems more dramatic). I did manage to write every day, just to keep the habit going, but I might need a break for a few days from even that. I’m trying not to panic about it and to remind myself that over the course of 2020, I took some time off periodically and still managed to meet my GYWO goal AND write an astonishing amount of stories. So it’s okay to take a break.

I hope all our lives in the coming weeks are gentle.

EDIT: Oh, I would like to tell you one thing I am excited about. I have this amazing student in my senior class. All my seniors are smart and engaged, but this one kid, Vitalii, is off the charts. He’s decided he wants to learn Chinese, enough to pass the HSK exam. We have a student from China in our class, and she has graciously allowed us to ask questions, but Vitalii is motivated! He formed a study group and I sort of invited myself to join (during class hours and morning break) and now we’re sharing vocab lists and flash cards in Quizlet and recommending apps. I’m excited to have someone holding me accountable, someone beside myself, because I know Vitalii will ask. Anyway, I have amazing students.
