Acknowledging my massive privilege here right at the start -- I am ridiculously grateful that I get to make these choices while simultaneously being ridiculously cheesed off at the ways in which businesses happily take advantage of people. I booked my plane tickets home for the summer. Airlines have done away with change fees, which is nice in These Uncertain Times. I had to switch my flights at least three times last year at the start of all this, and those fees add up.

Of course, airlines have to get extras from us somehow, so they now charge to pick your seat, on a sliding scale of course, based on "premium" seats, and now you're no longer allowed one free checked bag. You do still get a free carry-on, which means I'm gonna get bonked on the head by someone jamming a massive hiking-style backpack into the overhead compartment at least once per flight.

Still, I get to see my family in just over three months! Probably!

I'm also hoping I'll be able to get vaccinated before I go because many countries are relaxing self-isolation rules if a traveler has proof of vaccination. And, in a massive fit of adulting, I have a dental appointment booked for this summer (well, my mom booked it for me since she's actually awake during normal business hours there).

IDK, y'all, the world continues to be So Much, All the Time. The back of my neck and shoulders are so tight, and I'm afraid I'll never fully relax them. But there is something to look forward to.
