Oh hello there.
I am pretty happy with yesterday's writing. I added 1286 words to a sweet little fic, and that makes me pretty darn happy. I haven't checked my total November word count yet, but I'm definitely ahead of my goal. And since I dropped the NaNo book, I feel like I have my motivation back.
Also, I'm procrastinating marking grammar quizzes and figuring out what to teach and how to teach it next week, grammar-wise. Lit wise, I'm solid. Mostly. My principal is coming on Monday morning to complete my formal evaluation, which is always a bit nervewracking. I feel really good about this lit unit, but my students always react as though they are gazelles who have spotted a cheetah lurking around their watering hole whenever he comes in. They are terrified of him, poor things, and he is deluded and thinks he knows them all and is their buddy. It would be funny if the kids weren't so petrified. Last time he came by, my sweetest, most angelic baby angel told me his chest hurt after the principal left. That's not cool.
Anyway, grammar. I treat grammar like I treated my chemistry class. I don't particularly care how or why things work as long as I can set something on fire and make pretty colors in the flames. This isn't the best way to go about teaching middle schoolers, though, so I have to figure out what I'm going to teach that would be most useful but require the least amount of effort. The problem is that I have some really sharp cookies in my group who want to Know Things (the nerve!), and I never really learned the finer nuances of English grammar, and I certainly never learned how to teach them.
This is all to say that I'm going to make some kick-ass anchor charts and save my marking for the two days of utterly useless PD I've got tomorrow and Saturday. If I don't write more of that fic instead.
